How to book a session at Potters Pet Portraits?

A booking can be made on the booking page, however if you'd like to check our availability on a particular date just send us a message by either email or contact us on social media.   We can then have a leisurely chat about how best to approach your pets needs, then run you though how it will work on the day and what you may need to bring with you to the sitting.

What animals do you photograph?

Any kind of animals are welcome here at Potters Pet Portraits! As long as they’re comfortable in our studio environment and are not at danger to our photographer or themselves, we try and keep it as homely and calm as possible with treats on hand and time before the shoot for them to adjust to new surroundings. We will never pressure an animal into something it isn't comfortable doing.

What sort of products do you sell?

Accepted Answer

We offer prints, canvases and mounted acryllic prints in popular sizes and competetive prices.   Prints are available to all customers regardless of the package they choose, as well as the option to buy any of the high resolution versions of their favourite images if you only chose the 'social media' package.

Question 4

Do I need to bring anything with my pet?

Accepted Answer

We encourage customers to bring any favourite toys, bedding or blankets along to help keep things relaxing and as familiar as possible. Don't hesitate to contact us if you'd like to ask any questions, we're always happy to help!

Question 5

Where will my session take place?

Accepted Answer

In our very accommodating studio in Colchester, Essex. Just a few minutes walk from a train station and local park.

Question 6

Does my pet need to be trained?

Accepted Answer

No, but it helps if they at least know sit or stay! If your pet is particularly active or nervous, or shows signs of aggression then we'll advise you to wait until they are more socialised. We can also recommend a very experienced dog trainer if you’re having trouble.

Does the session fee include any photos?

Accepted Answer

Yes you will receive a link to view all the best images from your session and be asked to choose your 10 favourites, we will then edit and add finishing touches to those 10 images which will be made available for you to download. Depending on the package you've chosen this will be either 'web resolution' or 'high resolution' images.   We don't include any prints as it's becoming increasingly common that customers value digital images over physical prints, however our print prices start at JUST £2.99 and it's extremely easy to order using the link we give you to view your 10 favourites. Question 8

How long does the session last?

We usually allow an hour but this depends on the animal, as they are each individual and may require more or less time. We have found around 30-40 mins shooting time to be ample, allowing your pet at least 15-20 mins to adjust to their new environment and feel settled.

Question 9

Do you do on-location shoots like my home or a park?

Accepted Answer

Generally we prefer studio based shoots as we have a controlled environment that's not subject to bad weather, which means we can spend more time getting pictures and less time adjusting lighting or setting up equipment.   Location shoots bookings are possible, however we would prefer to talk beforehand to discuss all the elements so we can produce the best quote we can that's tailored to you. Are you insured?

The studio is covered by liability insurance, however, damage to the studio or equipment will need to be compensated.

Are you a qualified photographer?

Accepted Answer

Yes! I have a BA(Hons) in Photography and have had over 18 years experience working with animals, adults and children.

How long does it take before I see the finished images?

Accepted Answer

We usually send the link to choose your 10 favourites within 48 hours, after we've received your selection please allow up to ten working days for final edits to be sent to you, it’ll be worth the wait we promise!

Question 13

How many photos will we get to see?

Accepted Answer

This varies as each animal is an individual and we do not like to push them out of their comfort zone, but rest assured we will get you and your pet pictures to be proud of. We take great pride in our patience and quality over quantity approach.
